Job Profile:

Position Purpose:

• The Dean of the College of Management will provide leadership and vision to the College’s administration, academic programs, curriculum development, and faculty and staff development. By so doing, he contributes to the College’s overall planning and development.

• The Dean will provide leadership and advocacy for strategic and budgetary planning; faculty and staff recruitment, development, and evaluation; excellence in teaching, creative activity, research, and scholarship; university and community relations; curricular and fiscal management; enrollment and marketing planning; student recruitment and retention; program review; and accreditation.

• The Dean is also responsible for keeping the appropriate records for program assessment and for ensuring that the college follows relevant accreditation standards.

• This is a major leadership role with clear responsibility for promoting the quality of research, education and enterprise within the faculty combined with accountability for ensuring that the faculty achieves its academic and financial objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Takes responsibility for leading the College with vision, creativity and excellence
• Provides collaborative and collegial leadership for the College
• Designs and implements the academic plan as it relates to the College of Management
• Develops, implements, promotes, and evaluates curriculum
• Supervises the management, development, and evaluation of curriculum for the College
• With the help of the department chairs, recruits, supervises, and evaluates full‐time and adjunct department faculty and support staff
• Promotes and fosters professional development activities related to academic leadership, classroom instruction, instructional technology, and support staff development
• Develops and implements budget and planning documents
• Works with department chairs to coordinate student program activities
• Collaborates with the Academic President, other Deans and administrative officers to achieve the objectives of the college
• Oversees the overall assessment program and ensures that relevant accreditation standards are followed and maintained
• Promotes research and teaching within the faculty, in line with the vision and strategy of the college
• Ensures the quality of education in the faculty
• Maintains academic standards in the faculty
• Manages the faculty’s daily affairs
• Manages, encourages and guides heads of school within the faculty
• Leads the appointments, promotions and probation procedures in the faculty
• Promotes, stimulates and is deeply committed to a research environment conducive to interdisciplinary inquiry that stimulates growth and facilitates translational research into the community and practice environments
• Is a strong advocate for the commercialization of basic research ideas and intellectual property into a broad-based economic development approach for the College
• Oversees and promotes external fundraising, funded service operations and the acquisition of grants and contracts in support of the College’s missions
• Establishes and maintains collaborations with professional organizations and engineers throughout the state and nation
• Advances the overall reputation and ranking of the College

Person Specification

•    The candidate should have an earned Doctorate from an accredited university
•    Should have a record of outstanding achievement in higher education and scholarship
•    Should have University teaching experience complemented by an appropriate scholarly record
•    Should have advanced interpersonal verbal and written communications skills and the ability to articulate and advocate for the needs of the College
•    Should have experience in strategic planning, academic program development, fiscal and academic planning, resource management, program development and problem solving in similar organizations
•    Should have administrative experience that includes academic planning, program review, strategic planning, program development, budgeting, and fiscal/personnel management
•    Evidence of dynamic and visionary leadership
•    A thorough knowledge and understanding of elements required to sustain and expand top- tier extramural research and entrepreneurial initiatives within an academic center
•    Should have demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse environment
•    The candidate must be flexible and adaptable to new ways of education other than the traditional  methods of teaching
•    Should be able to create opportunities for the students and be able to nurture them
•    Should be able to engage with all individuals( faculty and students) and not just those over him in hierarchy
•    Should be open to adopting new technology to support and improve teaching methods
•    Should be able to identify best practices and to integrate the same with the current system
